For the personal project I took inspiration from paintings of fantastical scenes that express a sense of whimsy. I have always enjoyed making animal and creature forms and with the 25 objects project leading up to this I had discovered a new way of making work by relying more on touch and informed decisions rather than a set plan to follow. This gave the work a new sense of flow as I explored the painting work and took away the idea to create fish. I think of fish as a form that is recognized by humans as a source of life but also mystery as many myths contain fish and creatures of the deep as well as knowing that we are still discovering new species to be a fascinating thing. I felt that with fish I could create whimsical forms that mirror reality while balanced on the edge of playful childlike wonder.
